Introduction of Dr. Yu Lei

As an architect, Dr. Yu embraces diverse roles in his design spectrum: a practitioner in automatic construction, a researcher in digital design and fabrication, and an educator for delivering interdisciplinary programs. His endeavor employs advanced manufacturing as a tool to integrate these roles to address his own architectural design solutions.

Dr. Yu obtained a doctoral degree of Architecture (Engineering Focus) from Tsinghua University in 2019, a Master’s degree of Architecture from Harvard University in 2004. In 2010, he established Archi-Solution Workshop, a research-oriented architectural design firm with advanced competence in implementing 3D-printing and robotic technology. He was host chair of CAADRIA2018, host chair of Rob|Arch 2020(canceled due to Covid 19), and co-founder of Digital Architectural Design Association.

Dr. Yu is an award winner of numerous notable design competitions and academic institutions, such as Rob|Arch, ACADIA, Architizer, Guinness World Record, and the Outstanding Design Figure of Beijing. Since 2013, he has developed and taught digital design courses in ETH Zurich, Tsinghua university, Tongji University and Beijing Forestry University. Dr. Yu has secured over 2M AU$ in competitive government and industry grants.He gave lectures at ETH Zurich, MIT, Foster and Partners, TEDx, and other design schools.
